Every author goes through phases, and I am no exception. These three short stories all show a definite Anne McCaffrey influence. They were written when I was a teenager in the mid- to late- 1980's.
An Aircar's Story: My first attempt at writing a short science fiction story as a teen. I was probably somewhere around 16 or 18. Many people say it has no plot and no ending. I have no idea what they are talking about.
The Ship-Poet: I wrote this as an exercise for the one and only creative writing course I ever took, a night class at the University of Minnesota. I was 17 at the time. It received a resoundingly bad grade. My mother proclaimed the teacher an idiot. It was also one of only two submissions I ever made to a science fiction magazine (the other was Erica) They were both rejected. My mother proclaimed the editor an idiot. She has always been very supportive of my work. Heh heh.
Empress: Considering how obsessively I searched for science fiction books with rock and roll in them as a teen, it is somewhat surprising I didn't write many music related stories. I think this is the only one.
